We focus on positive reinforcement, balanced and bond-based training, communication, and setting boundaries to grow a happy and healthy relationship between you and your dog.
The biggest reason dogs are abandoned is because of behavior. Humans become frustrated when dogs get into mischief. But as humans, we are not always sure what to do. Sadly, many people rehome a pet or abandon their pets. Behavior problems can all be avoided with proper training.
We highly recommend behavioral training for all dogs starting when they are a puppy. A well-behaved dog makes a happier dog and a happier human.
Meet our trainer!
Cheryl Kocher has always been passionate about helping animals. She has 10 years of experience training dogs and teaching families how to help their pet succeed. She is an active volunteer for CART, a Cincinnati-based tri-state agency that helps animals in disaster situations, and she has worked at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens, helping visitors, staff, and of course, a variety of animals.
Cheryl graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor’s degree in human resources, and she recently attained her PHR designation. Her philosophy on creating successful relationships with animals is first to establish respect, then to build a mutual bond of trust with them.
She earned her dog training certification through John Van Olden at Canine Trade Group based in Dover, Delaware. The dog training program our Cincinnati dog trainer, Cheryl, uses has been proven to be successful for over two decades. Cheryl specializes in working with the hard-to-fix cases, and she regularly works with dogs suffering from severe aggression and anxiety.
Cheryl is a licensed training provider through the American Red Cross to teach dog and cat first aid classes. She is also a certified AKC CGC Evaluator and certified S.T.A.R. Puppy Instructor. She is also the City of Madeira’s Dog Control Specialist!
Cheryl has a dog of her own named Prince. He is a five-year-old German Shepherd who loves showing off his tricks to children and making them smile. Prince loves to interact with his extended family of three cats and a ferret!
Types of Training Offered:
In this introductory class for puppies 12 weeks to five months of age, we will cover basic learning theory, bite inhibition, and basic manners, as well as discussions on potty training, crate training, and puppy socialization.
This class is for dogs six months and older. We will cover basic learning theory and obedience to include sit, stay, come when called, and proper walking on leash.
In intermediate class, you and your dog will be taken to the next level of obedience. Adding distance, duration, and distractions to basic commands are the primary focus of this class. Heel, place, and wait are new commands learned in this class.
You have successfully navigated puppy/beginner and intermediate classes and are ready for the final test! Advanced class takes you and your dog in the community to work and demonstrate their ability to be well-behaved members of society. The end goal of the advanced class is to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen Class.
Have a unique problem a group class will not fix? Is there one thing you need to modify and your dog will be your perfect companion? Looking for the one-on-one touch? Private lessons are just the ticket for you! Lessons are designed for you and your dog in mind.
